Interview & Contest with Lia Davis Author of Ravished Before Sunrise

About
Lia Davis is a mother to two young adults and two very special, equally different kitty cats. She’s a wife to her soul mate, who drives her crazy during editing/revisions. She and her family live in Northeast Florida battling hurricanes and very humid summers. But it’s her home and she loves it!
An accounting major, Lia has always been a dreamer with a very activity imagination. The wheels in her head never stop. She only recently became serious about publishing her work and loves it more than she imagined. Writing is a stress reliever that allows her to go off in her corner of the house and enter into another world that she created, leaving the day job where it belongs.
Her favorite things are spending time with family, traveling, reading, writing, chocolate, coffee, nature and hanging out with her kitties.

      1.    What inspired you to become a writer?

I’m not sure really. I always loved reading romance and when I discovered paranormal romance, my muse woke up and hasn’t shut up since.

      2.     When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve always enjoyed writing. From short stories to just daily ramblings in a journal, my mind was always going and creating. But I didn’t decide to make writing my career until about three years ago when I started reading paranormal romance.

        3.  What genre(s) do you write? Why do you write the stories that you write?

I write paranormal romance. I love the suspense and danger mixed into the romance.

       4.  Where did the inspiration for your book come from?

My debut release, Ravished Before Sunrise, is a Decadent Publishing 1Night Stand Story. A few authors in my critique group wrote them and after reading their stories I fell in love with the series. They are short, fun reads. So I wanted see if it was as fun to write a 1Night Stand as it is to read them. And it was!

         5.  How long did it take you to put the story together?

Well RBS comes in at about 9K words, so from plotting/research to submission it took me about 2 1/2 weeks.

         6.  Can you share a little about your novel with us?

Sure! Here’s the blurb and excerpt.

Blurb:
Born with the unusual ability to see what truly lies in the shadows, Emalee Black is stuck between two worlds, the paranormal and the human. Neither one accepts or understands her and she's forced to live a quiet, boring life in hiding. When her best friend mentions 1Night Stand dating service, Ema chooses a role-playing adventure straight out of her romantic fantasies. She's to hunt her very own vampire and have her wicked way him.

Vampire Darian Wyman is surprised when his daughter signs him up for a one-night stand with an exclusive matching agency. At first he's appalled by the idea, but as he reads the details of the date he becomes intrigued. For one night he will get away from the life he has long grown tired of to be hunted and captured by a would-be huntress. But he has plans of his own for his little vixen.

However, when Darian discovers the truth about Ema's inhuman abilities, the date could end before it gets started.

Excerpt:
Emalee’s pulse raced as she drummed her fingers on her desk and searched the website. A giddiness she hadn’t known since senior prom ran through her. The site claimed unlimited possibilities, a chance for adventure. Could they mean it? Because she’d already seen things beyond what humans deemed possible. Hell, her whole existence was unimaginable.

Her life had taken a lonesome turn when a friend she hadn’t seen since high school noted how much younger than the rest of her classmates she looked.  Her long-lasting youth had become a liability. Drawing too much attention to her unusual gift wouldn’t prove wise. In some cases, it could get her killed.  With no alternative, she’d closed the door on her life among humans and moved into the local witch coven, where everyone was different.

“What will you do?” Her best friend since preschool, a coven member in good standing, sat next to her for moral support and encouragement. Ema didn’t need much encouragement. The second Beth had mentioned a one-night stand, she’d been hooked. And Madame Eve’s dating service would save her from dying of boredom, at least for one night.

But could she go through with it? A wicked smile tugged at her lips and her inner voice said, “Hell, yeah.” Human strangers gave her a sense of safety. They knew nothing about her past or her unusual abilities.

“Just one night?”

       7.  Who is your favorite character in your novel and why?

I love both my main characters, but I’ll have to say my hero. Darian is a sexy vamp, business man, father, and passionate.

       8.  Now that your book is getting ready to hit the stores describe how you feel in one sentence?

RBS release Tuesday, May 1st. I can’t describe how exciting it is to have your book listed at the online books stores. It’s only second to delivering your child.

      9.  What has surprised you the most about the whole processes of getting your book on the market?

Not too much. I’ve done a lot of research about publishing and writing when I begin. Plus I have support friends that help answer questions and give tips.

        10.  How many books have you written?

RBS is my second completed story. I have a full length novel, Forgotten Visions in the editor’s hands. FV is the first in my Divinities series, where I have five books planed.

       11.   What are you working on next?

I have three WIPs going right now. I’m working on finishing book 2 in the Divinities series and starting a new series about dragons and Greek gods. J That series will be self published later this year. My third is a secret project I’m working on with my writing partner, Carrie Ann Ryan.

     12.   What do you like to do for fun when you’re not writing?

Fun? Writing’s not fun? Lol. I spend time with my family and sneak in some reading.
