Interview & Contest with Carolyn Rosewood Author His Majesty's Secret

About the Author:

Carolyn Rosewood loves to make up stories about badass alpha heroes and the women who love them and keep them guessing. She’s been reading romances for over thirty years and is never without a paperback or her Kindle.
She’s drawn to reading interesting plots and bad-boy sexy heroes, so you’ll find those in the stories she writes as well. Her other interests include playing the cello and collecting antique pottery.
In real life she works at a large US insurance company, but at home she’s either writing, reading, or spending time with her husband – her real life hero. They have a daughter in college and a cat who loves to watch Carolyn type.

Interview Questions….

  1. What inspired you to become a writer?

I’ve been writing since I was eight years old. I didn’t even know how to type but I’d bang out stories about animals and such on my mother’s battered manual typewriter. I can’t remember a time during junior high and high school when I didn’t have a notebook filled with handwritten stories. I’d write during class when I was bored, and just about any time at all. I’ve always had stories and characters in my head, clamoring for attention.

  1. When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I read my first romance novel at age 19, Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers, I knew I wanted to be a romance writer.

  1. What genre(s) do you write? Why do you write the stories that you write?

I write erotic romance, both contemporary and paranormal. I write the type of stories I want to read. I love detailed emotional sex scenes and highly detailed suspenseful plots, so I try to give my readers both in each story.

  1. Where did the inspiration for your book come from?

My latest release, HIS MAJESTY’S SECRET, was first inspired over twenty years ago by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. I was captivated by the scene at the end where the beast turns into the prince, and the story took off in my head.

  1. How long did it take you to put the story together?

Twenty years! It went through many revisions, characters came and went, and even the hero and heroine changed names at one point.

  1. Can you share a little about your novel with us?

Fleeing betrothal to a greedy, sadistic Count, Ravenna LoPresti of Wythmail is forced to kill Castle Guards in the neighboring kingdom of Ashdowne, and becomes the unwilling companion of Crown Prince Dalmas as he flees his own castle.

Dalmas's half-brother Austin has declared himself King and placed a price on Dalmas's head. If Dalmas hopes to take back his rightful Crown, he must find documents that prove Austin's claims false before his own Castle Guards catch up with him.

With a price on Ravenna's head now as well as his own, he takes her with him in the hopes of finding her safe refuge. But as circumstances force them to flee together, even into the neighboring kingdom of Enfield, Dalmas realizes he's falling in love with Ravenna. He knows he faces certain death if his mission is unsuccessful, but how can he give her up?

Ravenna's plan was to flee through a portal into the world of Outsiders and thus gain her freedom, but when she and Dalmas finally reach Enfield, she finds she's been framed for murder by the Count. Falling in love with Dalmas was not in her plans. She must now choose between safely waiting for the next dark moon while in Enfield, so she can cross over into the world of Outsiders, or continuing with Dalmas into the Wastelands to find the documents that will either prove he's the true King, or seal their death sentences.

ADULT EXCERPT:

Ravenna didn’t realize she was crying until he brushed away her tears. When his mouth found hers again, she didn’t hesitate to return his kiss. He partially unlaced her dress, his fingers trailing down her spine, white-hot against her skin. His tongue flicked down her neck and across one shoulder, then the other.

She reached for his tunic, but he caught her hands and pinned them to her sides. “Me first,” he whispered, a wicked grin on his face.

“Am I not to move, Highness?” Ravenna shivered as he held her wrists firm.

“Keep your hands at your side, or I’ll put you over my knee.”

She couldn’t help the moan that escaped her lips as he gently pushed the dress over her breasts and arms until the fabric reached her wrists. She held her arms still, although the thought of moving them so he’d follow through on his threat to spank her sent waves of desire straight to her pussy.

He knelt in front of her and took her breasts in his hands, pushing them together. When he ran his teeth and tongue over her nipples as he had earlier by the stream, she cried out, clenching her thighs together. She was so close to an orgasm all she had to do was move the right way. Did he know? Was he doing this on purpose, making her wait? “Dalmas, please.”

He looked up, his eyes smoky with lust. “You’re very impatient, girl of Wythmail.”

When he smacked her on the left ass cheek, she yelped, more from surprise than anything. She barely felt his hand through the fabric of the skirt, but her pussy became so wet her juices started to trickle down her thighs.

He returned his attention to her nipples, and she had to dig her nails into her palms to keep from grabbing a fistful of his hair to push his mouth closer. The thought of a spanking competed with her desire to see what else he had planned for her.

“You may move your arms, but only to allow the dress to fall.” He pushed the fabric down to her ankles. “Now keep your arms at your sides again or you’ll get more of this.” He smacked her hard, once on each ass cheek.

Oh, Stars of Rohesia. “Dalmas, please...” She looked into his handsome face to find him grinning.

“Am I to understand you like that, Ravenna?”

She was grateful for the low light, for she knew a fierce blush covered her face. “Yes,” she whispered.

“I shall have to remember that.” He stood and retrieved a blanket, which he spread on the ground in front of her. “Move your legs apart a bit.”

She did as he asked. His tongue traced a line of liquid fire over her abdomen then down to her wetness, flicking her clit, teasing. Her palms became damp and numb from pressing them against her hips to keep from moving. Incomprehensible sounds escaped her throat. His tongue alternated between lapping inside her pussy and flicking her clit until she was ready to explode. She’d reached the point where she couldn’t take anymore when he took her entire clitoris into his mouth and sucked hard, slipping two fingers inside her at the same time.

She screamed and dug her hands into his hair, grinding her hips into his face as an intense orgasm spread through her, shocking her with wave after wave of hot fire. It went on for long minutes. Even her legs trembled.

He lowered her to the blanket and laid her face down, then took her arms and put them over her head, holding both wrists with one strong hand, just as he had the first day.

“I told you not to move,” he said, a smile in his voice.

She tensed in anticipation. He spanked each cheek several times and it stung, but it also sent a flood of desire through her like nothing ever had. He let go of her wrists, and she heard the rustle of clothing.

“Please, Dalmas. Let me touch you. Let me see you.”

“Not tonight. You’re being punished.”

  1. Who is your favorite charter in your novel and why?

Dalmas. He’s the perfect hero. A great sense of humor, lustful, and strong. But he’s also vulnerable and not afraid to show it when necessary.

  1. Now that your book is getting ready to hit the stores describe how you feel in one sentence?

Grateful

Excerpt:
Prologue
She was a chronic worrier—
“I have a bad feeling about this, Ben.”
—and a touch melodramatic.
“This is suicide. It’s also stupid, morally wrong, and pointless. And did I mention suicide?”
Ben wasn’t listening. He was reaching a hand inside the open neck of his shirt. She’d spent enough time with him to know he was touching the cross on the necklace that had once belonged to his dad.
“Detached, that’s how you make me feel, Ben. Like I’m watching your life through a window.”
Striking up an old conversation was hardly creative, yet the feeling of not belonging with him was just as strong now. She gave a heavy, audible sigh but Ben wasn’t taking the bait. “A bubble. I live in a bubble.”
“Relax.” Ben closed his eyes as he sucked up a deep, dusty red breath like he was meditating on Mars. “Everything will be all right.”
As well as a chronic worrier and a touch melodramatic, she was also an eternal optimist. So she looked around in case she was missing something, but all she saw was proof to the contrary. She, Ben, and a few hundred others were in a convoy, crossing a desert that appeared to be empty, yet the drivers had dodged gun and mortar fire since they’d passed over the border an hour ago.
What this land must have looked like when it’d been fertile with lush, green trees and wide, blue rivers was hard to imagine, but she tried. Her eyes had closed for a second when a burst of gunfire to her right jolted them wide open again.
“We signed up for non-combat jobs, remember?” She wondered if punching him in the head would do any good.
Probably not. If her bubble-hands were too weak to smash through the invisible wall surrounding her, they’d be like wet rags against his thick skull. Plus he was wearing a metal helmet and she was likely to break more than a nail.
“We’re meant to be back home making trucks. That’s what we were promised we’d be doing. Jeez, Ben. Think about your mom.”
Perhaps he was. Perhaps many of the soldiers here were thinking about loved ones they’d left behind. Many of the men and women seated on either side of her had grave expressions, like tufts of unruly hair, peeking out from underneath their helmets. Or were they just scared?
Maybe a sense of duty impelled them to enter a war zone. Responsibility was her only motive; she certainly wasn’t here for the ambience. And she would rather have thrown herself under the truck’s heavy wheels than dodge her responsibilities. So with an dramatic sigh—in case during the past minute Ben had suddenly developed the ability to take a hint—she settled back into the role of accepting what she couldn’t change while wishing that she could.
A round of cheers sprang up from a group of soldiers at the back of the truck, a malevolent presence screaming as if newly born and was demanding to be fed. She shivered and huddled closer to Ben.
It can be the brightest day, but fill it with just one dark soul and the day is ruined.
She made a mental note to keep well clear of these soldiers. She hoped Ben was smart enough to do the same.
“I’m here to keep my homeland safe.” The tremor in Ben’s voice was at odds with his bold statement. She wanted to tell him he could’ve made trucks at home, but because his eyes were fixed on his boots she succumbed to the rhythm of the back-jarring ride across the pothole-filled road and held her breath, hoping it wouldn’t be her last.
Their convoy of flatbed trucks was carrying hundreds of troops, weapons, ammunition, Abrams tanks, armored personnel carriers, and Humvees to the compound, their base for the next six months. With any luck they’d move out faster than they were moving in. Their convoy was doing twenty miles an hour, but she felt as if ants could have passed them.
She wanted to laugh as she pictured tiny insects kicking up orange dust, flipping the bird at the drivers and shouting obscenities. Instead, she bit her lower lip. This was neither the time nor the place to flaunt her eternal optimism. Besides, she wasn’t sure she had any cheerfulness left in her.
“I still don’t see why we’re here,” she mumbled.
What made the trip seem slower, she realized, was the lack of perspective. Much like an ocean without any land mass to help judge distance, this desert seemed to stretch endlessly ahead of them. If only the drivers would go faster; it had to be harder to hit a quicker-moving target. She was tempted to grab Ben by the collar and pull him off the truck, but the heat was around a hundred degrees, and with all the gear packed on them—M-247, M-249, backpack, flak jacket, radio, helmet, goggles—it would’ve been like sprinting around inside an oven.
Sand began to whirl in all directions, marching up and down the convoy as if sizing it up to establish whether it could be swallowed whole. This was the most dangerous time for the convoy. The trucks had to slow to a crawl or risk running into each other or off the road. Their only saving grace was that the enemy was exposed to the same elements. So while the soldiers couldn’t see a thing, they also couldn’t be seen. At least that was her theory.
Time went by. Soldiers weren’t killed so everyone began to relax a little and make conversation. But when the flatbed truck passed a burned-out tank on the side of the road, everyone went quiet. Nobody could take their eyes off the ruins. Despite wanting to look away out of respect, she was enthralled.
Did everyone want to know the same thing she did? Had the tank internally combusted from the constant battering of the sun? Nice concept, but this damage had been caused by man. Judging by the looks on their faces, everyone knew that. When the eyes of the soldiers around her widened she guessed they had silently asked another question. Was this one of their tanks or the enemy’s?
They lowered their eyes and she had her answer.
“Do you think they got out before it got hit?” she asked.
Ben didn’t respond, but from the rear of the truck the loud-mouthed soldiers yelled, “Oh yeah, you’re gonna get it now, you freakin’ sons of bitches.” Cheers followed. Even if she’d known what insults to hurl at these soldiers, she reminded herself that she’d sworn moments ago to steer clear of these men. So she kept her gaze forward and her mouth shut.
Like a good soldier. A ripple of self-loathing rose and lodged in her throat. She’d never have guessed it would taste so foul.
Outside, the sand was swirling faster as though thrown about by a crèche load of bad-tempered toddlers, and pretty soon both the ground and sky were painted flame orange, crackling like an open fire. She was afraid to breathe. Soldiers pulled down their goggles to cover their eyes, but this action was a useless defense against the sand that bit into their exposed flesh.
The dust cleared, and finally, the convoy arrived at the compound. Without a word, she and everyone else began unloading the contents of the flatbed trucks—smaller trucks, enough guns to keep the war going for centuries, tanks, food, water and whatever other supplies they’d need for the next six months.
Breathing was difficult. This was the most physical work she’d performed in ages. When she stopped for a break, resentment at the lies welled inside her. Tears stung her eyes. “Forget home sweet home, this place is home sweat home.”
Each and every soldier was drenched from top to bottom from the exertion of working under the glaring sun. Their sweat filled the air; she could have sworn she was in a sauna. Optimism dripped off her forehead. She wiped at her brow and was surprised when her hand came away wet, not with sweat but something else.
No tears. At least not for herself.
After half an hour, a few companies got into the smaller trucks and disappeared, perhaps to do their hard labor in another section of the growing heat. Another hour after that, once everything had been unloaded, the company she and Ben were assigned to was ordered into one of the smaller trucks, and they too left.
A sergeant with silver hair and eyes was seated in the front. He looked the type who was too mean to have ever had a pet. For long.
“You pussies will stand guard at the hospital for the next twenty-four hours,” the sergeant bellowed. “You will each do two twelve-hour shifts, one shift inside the hospital, one outside.”
“When do we get time to shoot the enemy?” the kid next to Ben asked. For one so young his eyes were hard, like steel.
“Don’t be fooled. The enemy is out there.” The sergeant’s gravelly voice roared as loudly as the aircraft parading over their heads. “If you ladies find yourself in a threatening situation, well, you know what to do. Are you pussies prepared to protect your fellow countrymen?”
A roar of cheers engulfed the truck. If the enemy hadn’t known they were here before, they were well aware of it now.
“Shoot first and ask questions later. That’s what he means.” The kid inched his way closer toward Ben. “You ever shot a bear? They come at you even after you’ve pumped ten rounds in ’em. I’ve heard it’s the same with these bastards. You shoot ’em and shoot ’em, but they keep coming at you with guns and knives. All the while cursing at you in the Devil’s language. You got to be careful not to touch ’em either. Their blood is poison.”
“I doubt we’ll shoot anyone at a hospital.” Ben scowled and moved along the bench as best as he could without falling off the edge. The kid must have gotten the hint because he kept quiet after that.
Unaffected by the searing heat outside, the truck chugged along until it rolled up outside a hospital that had weathered grenade blasts and gunfire till it resembled a thousand-year-old relic.
For some, this was their first time on foreign soil. For others, this was simply another day at work. Yet everyone jumped off the truck and danced boxer-like on their feet as though something invisible was going to jump out from the air and snatch them.
The sky above was on the go with Apache helicopters, hellfire missiles, dust, and jet stream. On the ground was a different story. The air barely stirred. No sign of anyone or anything with a pulse, let alone the dreaded enemy. Aside from one or two civilians she could see sneaking peeks at the soldiers from around corners of shattered buildings, the street was empty. So why could she feel the distinct presence of something out there? Watching, waiting, and blistering with hatred at this invasion.
“Each and every one of you signed a contract with the U.S. Army, which means your asses belong to me,” shouted the sergeant. His eyes scanned the soldiers with no more than a passing glance, as though he already considered them obsolete. “Your mommies can’t help you now. So if any of you pussies don’t want to be here, you can kiss my red, white, and blue behind. Now secure the building and welcome to hell.”

Interview with Olivia Starke

About:

Olivia Starke calls a little town in southern Missouri home. Some of the most beautiful country in the U.S., she loves the Ozarks and hikes, runs, or kayaks whenever possible. When not working at her laptop or in her retail management job, she’s playing mom to an ever expanding collection of dogs, cats, and horses who find their way to her little farm.

Interview Questions….

     1.  What inspired you to become a writer?

My imagination which is overactive and all around too much to contain, so I throw it on paper and sell it to the masses.

    2.  When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I guess I’ve always been a writer. I didn’t make the decision one day to pursue it, I just did it. I wrote my first romance in Jr. High, and in high school I wrote for my high school paper (which was awesome!) I also had a poem published while in high school J

      3.  What genre(s) do you write? Why do you write the stories that you write?

I write paranormal, because it’s what interests me as far as writing goes. And it’s so much easier than, say, straight contemporary. I have a contemporary release, Dreaming In Blue, out, but my gosh it was hard to write sans paranormal! It’s getting great reviews so I guess I didn’t do too bad.

     4.   Where did the inspiration for your book come from?

The last one, Dreaming In Blue, is loosely based (VERY loosely based) on a favorite book/movie Patch of Blue. Seriously, if you can get your hands on either, I highly recommend them.

    5.  How long did it take you to put the story together?

No too long as far as fleshing out the story. With my crazy schedule, getting it written was another story.

     6.   Can you share a little about your novel with us?

I wanted to write about a strong heroine, Sierra, who lost her sight while in childhood, yet retained a positive outlook in life. She’s optimistic, and hasn’t let anything slow her down. My hero, Daniel, lost his wife in a house fire, and became scarred both physically and emotionally scarred because of it. He’s managed to raise his little girl, but he has a thing or two to learn from Sierra.

     7.  Who is your favorite charter in your novel and why?

         Sierra J She kicks ass.

     8.   Now that your book is getting ready to hit the stores describe how you feel in one sentence?

I am stoked! Especially since it’s getting great reviews! Like I said previously, I struggled with the non-paranormal element to it. I feared it’d be a big flop.

     9.   What has surprised you the most about the whole processes of getting your book on the market?

The amazing community of authors out there. Seriously, we support each other, promote each other, it’s incredible. You rarely find that in business, especially if sales are involved. I have a great author circle!

     10.  Would you like to share what the reviewers are saying about your book?

      I’d love to!
Francesca from underthecovers gave it 4 out of 5 flames: “….This was my first story by this author so I'll definitely be looking for more of her work.”
Sir’s Kitten from kinkybookreviews gave it 4 out of 5 Kinks: “It was fresh, different, and made me want to read more….”

     11.  What are you working on next?

I’m determined to get a full length out before the end of the summer, but right now I’m in edits on my first Indie titled A Free Taste Of Sin, a paranormal erotica.

     12.   How can readers contact you?

     13.  When does your book go on sale and where can we buy it?

      Amazon
      ARe
      Smashwords

1   14.   Last but not least is there anything that you would like to add?

Angel of Death

The task at hand? Save the elder vampires from the plague of "the endless sleep." As a hired assassin, Mika Shadow knows not to let emotions get in the way. Given her skills and gifts, she's known as the Chosen One amongst her people. During her mission to steal the formula for anti-aging, and the elixir of life for the vampires, Mika finds herself facing the kidnappers who shattered her world as a young girl and abducted her from her mother. Her past comes roaring back to life! As she is dealing with those demons, Mika also finds herself falling for her target. She only has four strict rules for selecting a mission or dismissing it. The fourth and final one - No emotions allowed - falls flat the minute she meets Domonic.

Excerpt:
His body seemed to be drawing closer to her instead of backing away. She was more beautiful than he could have imagined. Her skin was so pale and flawless against her raven black hair that she seemed as if she didn't belong in this world. He stared into those emerald eyes that shimmed and glowed. Her eyes reminded him of something he just could not place his finger on. Her tongue traced her lips giving him the urge to trace those lips with his own tongue. He drug his eyes off her lips and back to those beautiful eyes and that's when it hit him. Her eyes reminded him of cat's eyes that glowed in the night. The he noticed that anger flashed in her eyes, the most deadly sort. But that was impossible; she was far too beautiful to be dangerous.

Shadows of my Past

Visions of death, sorrow, and anguish are common for Desi while working with the St. Louisville Police Department as a consultant in tracking down kidnappers and murders. However, a single touch from Barcuilai and her visions were of another time and place. Why then was the man in her visions standing right in front of her in the present? Desi wasn't sure how to handle these visions of sorrow that she saw when she touched Barcuilai. They troubled her in a way that made her feel as if her very soul was being torn apart. She wanted to flee; just as much as she wanted to erase the pain from his golden eyes. Together Barcuilai and Desi could not deny the connection they felt for one another. Will Barcuilai find love once more only to lose it again when Desi becomes the target of the very serial killers she's helping the police track down or will Desi just become another shadow of his past?

Excerpt:
Desi was staring into the depths of emotion reflected in his eyes.  She felt drawn to him as if an invisible force was pulling their bodies closer together.  She was suddenly aware of her lips being dry and her tongue darted out to moisten them.  She was aware of the hunger and desire that rose up in the depths of his eyes as he gazed at her trembling lips.  She wanted to run to safety but she couldn’t bring herself to move.  She had the feeling of being stared down by a hungry wolf only he didn’t want to gobble her up but devour her heart and soul.
Then his lips touched hers softly at first as if to ask permission for his touch.  When she didn’t pull away he deepened the kiss taking full possession of her mouth.  Branding her body, heart and soul so that she knew that she was his and his alone; she knew she’d never be the same again.  Every rational thought left her mind as heat flooded her body.

Look inside Bound by Blood Short Story Shattered Vows:
February 14, 1986
Huddling in the corner of the room, his body shivering with fear as well as the bitter cold, Reynard’s eyes darted form one corner of the room to another.  Although there was no sign of her, he knew she was there.
He kept telling himself that he wasn’t crazy, that he really had seen her.  He felt like the hunted, being tracked down by a beast that thirsted for his blood.  She was a demon, out to destroy him.  He had seen that look in her eyes, how they burned with the fires of hell.
From across the room something crashed and splintered into pieces.  He strained to see what it was, but he saw nothing.  Common sense told him he must escape from this house before she destroyed him.
He had grown thin and haggard form loss of sleep and a waning of appetite.  Every time he closed his eyes, hers would appear and he would sit up screaming.
On several occasions he had awakened and found himself standing outside in the cold.  One night there was a thick fog that rose up from the ground, making it impossible for him to see a step ahead for fearing of falling down the sides of the cliff.  She came to him, her arms outstretched and eyes of burning coals.  She appeared to be floating on thin air.
“Reynard, my love.  Follow me and I will guide you to safety.”
Her image seemed to be floating in the air.  Reluctantly he followed her.  He kept losing sight of her as the fog thickened around him.  He speeded up his pace.  Sometime later he fell behind.  He looked about him, searching for this ghostly figure that was lulling him – hopefully, towards home.  It felt like he’d been walking for hours, in endless circles.  Trying desperately to catch up with this vision, he tripped and fell to the ground.  He quickly got up and took a step back.  Suddenly the ground was no longer beneath him.  He grappled with the air, managing by the mercy of God to grab hold of the edge of the cliff.
